A SYMPOSIUM

 

CLASSICAL DRAMA

 

Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade and the Association for Classical Studies Serbia are pleased to announce the International conference “Classical Drama”, hosted by the Faculty of Philology and held in Belgrade, Serbia, October 22-23, 2016.

 

We suggest a broad range of topics, allowing multiple theoretical approaches, reflecting the continuous and consistent influence these bodies of work have held on global and local cultures for nearly three millennia.

 

§  Classical Greek and Roman drama (interpretation and translation)

 

§  Classical tragedy and comedy in European literature (influence, inspiration, paradigms)

 

§  Classical drama today (performance and adaptation)

 

§  Classical drama among the Serbs

 

§  Cypriot drama

 

§  Classical Drama Topics in New Media (current influences on popular culture: movies, television shows, and video games)

 

 

 

Contributions from the fields of literature, theory, linguistics, philosophy, film and media studies, sociology, history, and other humanities are welcome.

 

The organizational committee is pleased to invite your participation at the Symposium. Please note the Registration form attachment. The filled form should be sent to either of these two emails: milenamjovanovic@gmail.com and gordan.maricic[at]mts[dot]rs.

 

Deadline for all submissions is September 15^th, 2016. Confirmation of participation will be sent by email no later than October 1^st, 2016.

 

Proposed length of presentations is ten minutes, with five additional minutes allowed for a discussion.

 

The participants of the Symposium will have a personal computer (Windows OS) and a projector at their disposal.

 

The official languages of the Symposium are Serbian, English, French and Greek. There will be no simultaneous translation available. The Symposium is of international character and a selection of papers will be published.

 

The organizational committee’s suggestion to all participants travelling to Belgrade is to secure accommodations in numerous well maintained hostels around Belgrade or in Palace Hotel. Please contact the above emails for further info.
